The Town of Lumsden’s upcoming by-election is now clearly taking shape, with nominations officially closed and three candidates confirmed for the ballot. Byron M. Tumbach, Natalie-Rose Haslund, and Tiffany Schaefer are each seeking the single open seat on council, setting up a straightforward race that will be decided by local voters in the coming weeks.

Byron M. Tumbach is no stranger to the council table, having previously served in the role. Professionally, he works as a CPA accountant with the Ministry of Justice, bringing both municipal experience and a financial background into the race.

Natalie-Rose Haslund serves as Chief Financial Officer of Freebird, offering leadership experience in financial management and organizational strategy.

Tiffany Schaefer works as a Financial Services Representative with Connexus, giving her direct experience working with clients and financial planning at the community level.

Election day has been set for Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Voting will take place at the Centennial Hall Lower Level from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. An advance poll will be held on May 11, 2026, in Council Chambers from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., providing an option for those who wish to vote early.

For residents unable to attend in person, a mail-in ballot option is available. Voters must complete a Voter’s Registration Form along with a Declaration requesting a mail-in ballot, with submissions required by April 22, 2026. Once approved, a ballot package will be issued, allowing voters to cast their vote from home.

To be eligible to vote, individuals must be at least 18 years old, be Canadian citizens, and have lived in Saskatchewan for at least six consecutive months. In addition, they must have resided in Lumsden for at least three consecutive months or own assessable property in the community for that same period.

With only one seat available and three candidates in the running, the outcome will come down to voter participation. Municipal elections may not always draw the same attention as larger races, but they play a direct role in shaping the day-to-day life of the community.

Now that the candidates are confirmed and voting details are set, the focus turns to residents. This is the opportunity for voters to learn more about each candidate and take part in deciding who will help guide Lumsden forward.
